Literacy Learning

This week Year 2 have been looking at poetry.They have had the opportunity to read, perform and enjoy some entertaining poems written by famous poets. They have also used their own experiences as inspiration, to innovate some of these poems, using them as models in order to write thier own. Take a look at the examples below.

The Moon

|

In Year 2 our topic for this week is 'The Moon'. The children have completed many activites based on learning about the moon, from desgining and making their own rocket to writing poems about the moon. Take a look at some of their fabulous learning below.

This week in Literacy we have focused on well loved author Julia Donaldson. We have looked at some of her well known stories and thought about a character from each story. Below are some examples of the wonderful work we have been doing.

Investigating Colour Art

This week Year 2 got creative with colour! They investigated different colours and explored which colours went well together. Here is some of the beautiful art they created.

This afternoon in PSHCE we thought about positivity and the importance of postivie thinking. Have a look at some of our positive quotes. 

Science

|

This afternoon in Science we continued our learning about habitats. The children created their own animal and explained why it was suited to the habitat they had chosen for it to live in. Next week we will look at food chains.

Computing

|

This afternoon we learnt all about algorithms. After finding out lots of new infomration we also played an educational game online. Take a look!

Geography - Countries of the UK

|

We are learning about the different countries of the UK and their capital cities. We have also looked at some famous landmarks.

Literacy Learning

This week in Literacy we will be looking at the story 'The Day the Crayons Quit'. We will be looking at how the characters in the story are feeling and writing our own letters to the crayons.

Music

This afternoon we have made our own musical instruments. Next week we will use these to create a piece of music based on one of thr characters from The Wind in the Willows.

|

This afternoon in PSHCE Miss Hamer read 'The FEEL GOOD Book' to us and asked us to think about what makes us feel good. Have a look at some of our ideas in the pictures below. 

Super Science

|

This week we continue with our learning about habitats. Today we looked at Urban, Woodland, Pond and Coastal habitats. We found out which animals we may expect to see in each of these different habitats. We then created some lovely artwork of the habitat of our choice.

R.E

This week in R.E we made some beautiful cards for our friends and family members who are celebrating Ramadan.

Geography

This week in Geography we will be learning about the United Kingdom. It is important we learn about the UK, as we are part of it! Take a look at what we have been up to below.

Our Rainbow Pictures

Computing - We Are Photographers

|

We have been learning photography techniques, specifically, how to take good shots and how to edit photos after they have been taken. We put our techniques to the test at the forest and then used photo editing software alter the pictures back in class. Here are some of the final edits:

Eldon House

|

Year 2 played household board games to help develop their turn taking skills and teamwork. The children considered the best location to play different games including the dining table or living room table and rug. We cared for the games to avoid wear and tear and made sure games were put away correctly before new games were chosen.


 

Computing

|

In computing this half term have been finding out about famous Preston Landmarks. Before we commenced our research we formulated questions to help guide our research. We presented our ideas in the form of a digital web diagram.

After devising our research questions we created our presentations using Google Slides.
